The SPAN Academy proudly hosted the TRANSMEDCON 2024 Quiz at Kaldan Samudhra, Mahabalipuram, marking another successful edition of this prestigious event in the field of Transfusion Medicine. This year saw a record-breaking participation, with 70 teams registered from various institutions across the country.

Quiz Masters

The quiz was expertly moderated by:

Preliminary Rounds: Following the written preliminary rounds, the top eight teams were selected based on their performance.

The SPAN Academy extends its congratulations to all participants and winners for their remarkable achievements in this year's quiz.

This year the event was held in Chandigarh. SPAN Academy had 38 teams registered with them for this 2023 annual Quiz Contest. The preliminary round, a paper-based one, was held on the 3rd of November 2023, and saw the emergence of the top 8 teams fighting for a place in the finals. This time, the preliminary round was conducted by Dr. Lakhvinder Singh, Associate Professor, Department of Transfusion Medicine, at PGIMER, Chandigarh. Prof. Ravneet Kaur, Organizing Secretary, TRANSMEDCON 2023 announced the winners and the runners-up of the SPAN Academy Quiz 2023. These teams were awarded trophies and certificates by Dr. Debasish Gupta, President ISTM, Prof. RR Sharma, Organizing Chairperson, TRANSMEDCON 2023 and Mr. Sanjay Ganapathy, CMD, SPAN Healthcare. Dr. Aikaj Jindal, Head- Transfusion Medicine & Head- Research & Devpm., Mohandai Oswal Hospital was the Quiz Master ably supported by Dr. Lakhvinder Singh and Dr. Kshitija Mittal. As always, the hall was packed with an eager audience, fighting to respond to the questions, and win give-aways from SPAN.

The ISBTI-TRANSCON 2023 held in Lucknow witnessed an exhilarating and intellectually stimulating event - the Quiz competition, which brought together some of the sharpest medical minds from across the country. With 16 teams participating, the event was a testament to the passion and knowledge that medical professionals possess.

Quiz Master Extraordinaire:Dr. Aikaj Jindal, a distinguished personality in the field of medicine, assumed the role of the Quiz Master, setting the stage for an engaging and competitive battle of wits.

Eminent Chairpersons:Guiding the proceedings as chairpersons for the Preliminary Round of the Quiz were two stalwarts in the field - Dr. Sanmukh Joshi and Dr. RR Sharma. For the Final Round of the Quiz, we were honored to have Dr. Ashish Tiwari and Dr. Awdhesh Agrawal. Their expertise and presence added immense value to the event.

The Journey to the FinalsThe competition was fierce, and after an intense preliminary round, four exceptional teams emerged as the top contenders for the coveted title. These teams were:

1. Dr. Punkesh Patel from SCTIMST- Trivandrum and Dr. Gloriya Cheriyan from SJMCH, Bangalore
2. Dr. Sumita Pandey and Dr. Piyali Dutta from Medical College & Hospital, Kolkata.
3. Dr. R Arthi and Dr. V Soundharya from Saveetha Medical College, Chennai
4. Dr. M Manimozhi and Dr. Saranya Maruthayee from Tirunelveli Medical College & Hospital, Tamil Nadu

The Grand Finale: As the anticipation reached its zenith, the four finalist teams battled it out in a nerve-wracking final round. It was a showcase of medical knowledge, quick thinking, and teamwork. After a thrilling contest, the results were announced:

Generous Sponsorship: The event's success was made possible by the generous sponsorship of SPAN Academy. The winners received a cash prize of Rs. 25,000, while the first runners-up were awarded Rs. 15,000 for their remarkable performance

Honoring Excellence: Certificates and trophies were presented to the Quiz Master, winners, first runners-up, and second runners-up as a token of appreciation for their dedication and knowledge. Additionally, all participants received participation certificates, acknowledging their valuable contribution to the event.

The ISBTI-TRANSCON 2023 Quiz was a celebration of medical brilliance and camaraderie. It not only tested the knowledge and skills of the participants but also fostered a sense of unity and shared passion within the medical community. Congratulations to the winners and all participants for making this event a resounding success!

The preliminary round, a paper-based one, was held on the 23rd of September 2022, and saw the emergence of the top 8 teams fighting for a place in the finals. This time, the preliminary round was conducted by Dr. Soumya Das, Assistant Professor and Faculty In-Charge, Department of Transfusion Medicine, Blood Center at AIIMS Nagpur. Topic: Apheresis – An apprehension

Free paper presentations were conducted post the sessions above. The top three winners were:

• 1st place: Dr. Rakesh, The TN Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai
• 2nd place: Dr. Mahalakshmi, SRMC, Porur
• 3rd place: Dr. Sandhya, SVIMS, Tirupathi

This year the event was held in Mumbai at the Hotel Sahara Star. SPAN Academy had 37 teams registered with them for this 2019 annual Quiz Contest. There were 7 other teams registering on-the-spot, making it a total of 44 teams which participated in the preliminaries of the Quiz.  The preliminary round, a paper-based one, was held on the 9th of January 2020, and saw the emergence of the top 8 teams fighting for a place in the finals. This time, the preliminary round was conducted by Dr. Aikaj Jindal, HoD- TM, SPS Hospitals, Ludhiana.

On the 10th of January 2020, the battlefield was set and the top 8 teams were:

3. Dr. Namrata Datta and Dr. Sharanya Ramakrishnan from PGIMER Chandigarh

5. Dr. Anila Mani and Dr. Sreethu Chand from SCTIMST, Trivandrum
6. Dr. Juilee Shalik Charmode and Dr. Deep Datta Madkaiker from Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai
7. Dr. Puneeth Babu Anne and Dr. Pallavi Singh from AIIMS Jodhpur

There was just the one round of semi-finals for all the top 8 teams, which helped us get the top 4 teams for the finals of the SPAN Academy annual Quiz 2019. The top 4 teams were:

2. Dr. Juilee Shalik Charmode and Dr. Deep Datta Madkaiker from Tata Memorial Hospital Mumbai

4. Dr. Namrata Datta and Dr. Sharanya Ramakrishnan from PGIMER Chandigarh

The finals were conducted, for the first time, by 2 Quiz Masters:

• Dr. Rajeshwari Basavanna, Consultant Transfusion Medicine at PD Hinduja and Medical Research Centre Mumbai
• Ravi Dara, Consultant Transfusion Medicine at Manipal Hospital Jaipur

We had 5 rounds of nail-biting quizzing, at the end of which we had the winner and runner up teams. The winning team was from Tata Memorial Hospital and the runners-up from AFMC Pune. These top 2 teams were awarded trophies and certificates by our CMD, Mr. Sanjay Ganapathy. As always, the hall was packed with an eager audience, fighting to respond to the questions, and win give-aways from SPAN.

SPAN Academy, in collaboration with the Jubilee Mission Medical College and Research Institute (JMMCRI), Thrissur, conducted/hosted a workshop on Presentation Skills for students and residents in the field of Transfusion Medicine from the medical colleges in Kerala. The workshop was held at JMMCRI on Saturday Feb. 16 2019. Thanks to Prof. Susheela J Innah, HOD- Transfusion Medicine, JMMCRI, the arrangements including the venue and delicious Kerala cuisine were top notch.

This was the launch of our workshops series. The focus of this workshop was on ‘Presentation Skills’ and provided the participants with pointers to make their presentations more effective.

The presentations, submitted by the students, were evaluated by ‘Senior Faculty’ and the Distinguished SPAN Alumni:

The top two presentations to be awarded trophies and certificates were:

Both of the winners are final year MD Transfusion Medicine students from JMMCRI. Participation certificates were given to all the participants.

Later in the evening, at the networking dinner, Dr. Mohandoss spoke about the latest trends in technology and what the future holds for Transfusion Medicine. SPAN Alumni spoke about opportunities available for the students and urged them to make full use of opportunities to upskill and participate in workshops, seminars etc.
